Cold Weather Protocol – Flookburgh Closed

As per the Authority’s Cold Weather Protocol, the Flookburgh cockle fishery will be closed from Saturday 11th January to Wednesday 15th January inclusive. This is due to the temperature being at or below freezing for at least half the time in the past five days. We will continue to monitor the local temperatures and the closure may be extended if the freezing temperatures persist. As it stands, the fishery will reopen on Thursday 16th January on the open tide for that date.

Please note, we are also monitoring temperatures at the Pilling cockle fishery under the same protocol, and this fishery may also have to close, although currently the threshold for closure has not been reached. Further information will be provided accordingly.
