Cockle Fisheries Update 2024/25

At the Technical, Scientific and Byelaws Sub-committee (TSB) meeting on 13th August it was resolved that:

  1. Flookburgh and Leven cockle beds will open on 2nd September. Over the season, until the end of April 2025, these beds will be open for one tide a day for ten consecutive days and then closed for four days, and so on.
  1. Pilling cockle bed will open on 1st October. The bed will be open for one tide a day for ten consecutive days and then closed for four days.
  • Opening will be subject to a further survey mid-September to assess whether enough undersized cockle has grown on to size.
  1. Leasowe cockle bed will open on 1st October. The bed will be open for one tide a day Monday to Friday and closed every Saturday and Sunday.
  • Opening will be subject to a further survey mid-September to assess whether enough undersized cockle has grown on to size.

Flexible permit conditions will be published on the NWIFCA website.

We will communicate and advise Byelaw 3 permit holders in the coming weeks of the open and closed tides.

All other beds will remain closed for the season under Byelaw 3.
