Cockle Fisheries Update 2024/25
At the Technical, Scientific and Byelaws Sub-committee (TSB) meeting on 13th August it was resolved that:
- Flookburgh and Leven cockle beds will open on 2nd September. Over the season, until the end of April 2025, these beds will be open for one tide a day for ten consecutive days and then closed for four days, and so on.
- Pilling cockle bed will open on 1st October. The bed will be open for one tide a day for ten consecutive days and then closed for four days.
- Opening will be subject to a further survey mid-September to assess whether enough undersized cockle has grown on to size.
- Leasowe cockle bed will open on 1st October. The bed will be open for one tide a day Monday to Friday and closed every Saturday and Sunday.
- Opening will be subject to a further survey mid-September to assess whether enough undersized cockle has grown on to size.
Flexible permit conditions will be published on the NWIFCA website.
We will communicate and advise Byelaw 3 permit holders in the coming weeks of the open and closed tides.
All other beds will remain closed for the season under Byelaw 3.
