Message from Wyre Council
Please see below a statement from Wyre council regarding the removal of shellfish.
“Wyre Council Food Safety Officers want to ensure that all batches of shellfish transported from Pilling Sands to their next destination are accompanied by appropriate Registration Documents which will be made available on request. Requests must be submitted by emailing [email protected] or by using our online application form https://www.wyre.gov.uk/xfp/form/339 , or by phoning 01253 891000 to speak to a member of the Commercial Safety Team.
It is a legal requirement for each batch of live bivalve molluscs or live shellfish being removed from a designated shellfish production area to be accompanied by a registration document. Registration documents ensure that shellfish placed on the market are safe to eat by providing details of the origin of batches of shellfish and maintaining traceability from harvesting to final sale. Where a batch of live shellfish is not accompanied by a completed registration document, food authorities are empowered to seize them and take appropriate action.
If you are transporting shellfish collected from Pilling Sands to their next destination, please ensure you have Wyre Borough Council Registration Documents to accompany the shellfish during transport from the beach onwards.
If you are selling / supplying shellfish gathered at Pilling to a buyer or agent at Pilling Sands beach you will not need registration documents. You will however need to ensure you provide your name, contact details and quantity of shellfish supplied to the buyer to enable these details to accompany their Registration Documents.
