At a meeting of the Authority’s Technical, Science and Byelaw Sub-Committee (TSB) yesterday, members voted to reopen Pilling cockle fishery, subject to an approved Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA).
Officers are now working to submit the new HRA to Natural England and will then provide our permitted gatherers and buyers with an update as to the exact date the fishery will open. Initially, the fishery will be opened on one tide per day Saturday to Wednesday, and open only to the west of a line drawn due north from the Fluke Hall Lane slipway. Exact details of all conditions under which the fishery will be opened will be provided to permitted gatherers through the associated flexible permit conditions.
